NEU Research Computing

At Northeastern, researchers are leveraging HPC to tackle barriers in the areas of AI, quantum computing, and biophysics.

Northeastern University Research Computing provides state-of-the-art computational resources, data management services, and expert support to enhance research across diverse academic disciplines. The primary focus is on offering high performance computing (HPC) capabilities, including the Discovery Cluster, which supports over 3,000 researchers with 50,000 CPU cores, 200 GPUs, and 9 petabytes of storage. These resources enable complex simulations, large-scale data analysis, and advanced machine learning tasks.

In addition to hardware, Research Computing offers training and consulting services to help researchers optimize their computational workflows. The team provides hands-on workshops and tutorials on topics like scientific computing, parallel programming, and data visualization. Personalized consulting helps faculty and students leverage computational tools effectively for their specific research projects.

Northeastern Research Computing also emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering connections between different fields to solve complex problems through computational approaches. The group supports research in fields ranging from engineering and life sciences to social sciences and digital humanities.

A commitment to secure and compliant data management is another key aspect of their services, ensuring research data is protected and stored according to best practices. By providing robust infrastructure, expert guidance, and fostering interdisciplinary partnerships, Northeastern University Research Computing plays a crucial role in advancing cutting-edge research across the university.
