Yale joins the MGHPCC

May 2, 2024

Yale University has joined the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC), a not-for-profit, state-of-the-art data center dedicated to computationally-intensive research.

Yale joins Boston University, Harvard University, MIT, Northeastern University, and University of Massachusetts as an equal partner of the MGHPCC consortium, which encourages collaborative research, pools knowledge across all member institutions, reduces redundancies in research computing operations and provides access to a more sustainable source of energy for research computing infrastructure. This collaboration also provides a gateway to addressing challenges in computing at a scale that are too great for one academic institution to tackle alone.

Work on the build-out of dedicated Yale space within the facility and the deployment of high-speed networking between Yale’s campus and MGHPCC is underway. Initial HPC hardware deployments are expected to occur in late-Spring and early-Summer 2024. Planning is underway for the full transition of Yale’s HPC equipment from West Campus to MGHPCC in the years ahead. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
